SERMON: April 7th, 2019 “Holy Spirit, You Are Welcome Here”
“Holy Spirit, You are welcome here, come flood this place and fill the atmosphere, Your glory God is what our hearts long for, to be overcome, by Your Presence, Lord!”
“We live in confusing times. Perhaps that has always been the case, for in every era the powers and principalities of the world mutate into different forms, inventing new temptations that leads followers of Jesus away from the gospel. Part of what it means to live faithfully involves discerning the signs of the times, paying attention to our ever-changing world” and trusting in our never changing God. But we know even in these confusing times that Jesus’ name is above every name on heaven and earth and every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord. We are to reach the ever-changing world/culture with the never-changing gospel. “It is the nature of the Holy Spirit (as we see at Pentecost in Acts 2:1-13) to shake up the church, particularly when the church becomes self-satisfied and content with the status quo”. (Stanley Hauerwas and William Willimon) May this never be us to ever be satisfied with the status quo. May we be appalled at the quote that “in the Global South, they struggle to keep up with the Spirit; in the West, we struggle to embrace it.” (Diana Butler Bass). May we passionately and completely say “Holy Spirit, You are WELCOME HERE!
