SERMON: December 23rd “Midnight Cry”
1 Thessalonians 4: 13-17 “Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.”
The greatest gift of all is when Jesus comes back and we are caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. We have to see the whole picture at Christmas time. It isn’t just about a baby in a manger; but the fact that prophecy of Isaiah 53:5 and from the book of Micah chapter 5 talks about the promised ruler born in Bethlehem; came true. In that truth we also know that Jesus will come again and in the parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25:6, we need to be prepared for His return. The midnight cry will ring out and the Bridegroom will come. Is your hearts right? Is there “Room in Your Heart for God to write His story?” (Casting Crowns and Matt Maher “Make Room”). We can never change the gospel “…Scripture is the only source of revelation not tainted by the Fall. So a biblical Christian should not reinterpret the perfect, unfallen Word of God according to fallible theories of sinful humans about a world we know to be cursed”.
