SERMON: February 25th, 2018 “How Do I Extend “His Grace” Into a Hurting World?”
Pastor Dave began his sermon today by explaining that grace is something we need to understand and that it is only what God can give. It is by His grace that we are saved, and it is what we need most when we get stuck in our ways. It is because of God’s grace in His righteousness that He can pour out His love on us even as we don’t deserve that love. God’s grace is sufficient – His power, strength is made perfect in weakness. The thorn that Paul struggled with in 2 Corinthians chapter 12, is the same thorn that we can struggle with – whether it is a physical thorn as in sickness or disease, or an emotional thorn – we desire to have it taken away. We want things to work out, but these thorns can be God’s way of getting our attention – to focus on Him. Even in the Beatitudes of Matthew 5, we are blessed when we are poor in spirit or when we mourn or when we hunger and thirst for righteousness, because it is in that poverty and in that need, that we see God. God wants our fellowship – He wants relationship and in that need of Him, we can make a difference for God. In that weakness, we depend on God and we, by knowing Him, can make a difference in this world. So often we just focus on Jesus on the cross, but there were 3 crosses and in God’s love and His desire for His creation, He waited for the two criminals to choose Him. One did, and the other didn’t. But that is God’s love; His grace that is extended to the world and we, in our dependency and need for Him, we can show that to the world.
