SERMON: July 8th, 2018 “Ambassadors – Christ in the Public Square – Tactics
Tactics is defined as an action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end. We can live this life with a mindset of faithfulness or fearfulness. Living fearfully is a reflection of of a fallen, broken world in rebellion, whereas if we live faithfully, then our witness and service flows from the Gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. If our mindset is faithfulness then our tactics are one of collaboration, servanthood, transparency, honesty, integrity and we do what is right regardless. However if our mindset is one of fear, then our tactics are about command, control, domination, deception and lies. In fear, then our success comes with a cost. Is success the calling or is faithfulness the calling? Do we look at success in our church as the number of people in the congregation and the number of programs or is it about our passion and longing for our Lord? God’s tactics are reflected throughout the Word. Gideon’s success was dependent of God who gave him 300 people, trumpets and glass jars. David’s success was defined by a slingshot to defend his God against the giant. Our tactics are to be the same. Not what the world defines, but what God defines. We are not to be of the world, but in it (Mother Teresa “– In the gutter but not Of the gutter “). It is only by God’s grace we have been saved. “Spiritual formation is our continuing response to the reality of God’s grace, shaping us into the likeness of Jesus Christ, through the work of the Holy Spirit,
in the community of faith, for the sake of the world.” Jeffrey Greenman.
