SERMON: May 5th, 2019 “Our God ‘Identification’ Begins with Humility”

Humility is not a product of works and is not being of low self-esteem or thinking less of ourselves than others.  Christ has to be our inspiration, our example, our pattern on how to be humble.  Humility means submission but not groveling because Jesus cannot get the glory in groveling.  When we clothe ourselves in humility (1 Peter 5:5), we create peace and unity with others.  Our focus is to humble ourselves under God’s will and live and breathe His commands, not to try to meet human demands and expectations.  Paul was very clear that we are to serve God and God alone.  We have been “bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.” (1 Corinthians 7:23).  A humble heart is the heart that has the desire to do God’s will.  Humility involves allowing God to use us exactly as He pleases in every situation because after all He is God.  “Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up”. (James 4:10).  Psalm 139:16, 23-24 “Your eyes saw my unformed body;  all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be…Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me,and lead me in the way everlasting.”
