SERMON: September 24th, 2017 “What Are the Odds?”
Today Pastor Dave spoke on 2 Kings 5:1-19 where Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria who was a great man with the king and was held in high favor, suffered from leprosy. It took a servant girl, who had been captured when the Syrians had raided the land of Israel, to lead him eventually to the one true God. This girl, who is unnamed in the Word of God, became a missionary and the question lies, what were the odds of a man like Naaman would listen to a servant girl? That poses the question to us – if God can use a servant girl, why wouldn’t God use us? Naaman did go to the land of Israel seeking this prophet that she spoke of, but in his pride and “Pastor Mentality” he became enraged when things didn’t go as he planned. But that is what God desires of all of us – humility. 2 Chronicles 7:14 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land”. God needed Naaman to humble himself, God needs us to humble and cleanse ourselves so He can heal.
