SERMON: December 10th, 2017 “A Time for Adaptation”

Today Pastor Dave spoke on Romans 8:1-2 ““The Solution is Life on God’s Terms – With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death. “ (The Message Bible) The key point for us is that we must adapt to Christ – we have no condemnation for those who are in Christ.  To be “in Christ” we must be in Christ’s heart, not that which we have known before when we invite Christ into our hearts, we still invite Him into our lives and can often do what we have always have done; we get wrapped up in doing things ‘our own way’.  But if we adapt into Christ’s heart, if we ask to be in His heart, then we live His way.    Pastor Dave spoke of the “perfect storm”.  There are essentially three parts in life – satan, us, the world and we usually do just fine if it is just between satan and us (because we can claim Jesus’ name and He fights for us), between the world and us and between the world and satan; but the problem lies when all three parts operate at the same time because that puts us in the middle struggling with satan and the world therefore the perfect storm.  God wants us to soar with Him, to be free in Him and He knows that our ‘lift off point’ is when we finally adapt to Him!  So the question lies – are we willing to humble ourselves to the adaption of our lives to Jesus instead of asking Him to adapt to ours?  Because the power of God makes all things work and then the perfect storm no longer exists as we do everything God’s way in His strength.
