SERMON: February 11th “How Did/Why Did God Reconcile Us to Himself?”
Today Pastor Dave spoke from 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 and asked the question “How did/why did God reconcile us to Himself?” – and the answer is love. God created us to be His family, not church members, but His sons and His daughters as His church family. Our decision to be with God is a yes or a no answer – if we choose YES, then it is an eternity with Him. On our journey, God knows we are going to make makes, but He desires a relationship with us and we have to be prepared all the time to walk with God as He desires to walk with us. God loves us so much, that He took the thing that He loved the most and sacrificed His only Son for us. Given His great love, give His desire for us – why wouldn’t we want that too? We are a new creation and this is not on our own, but from God and He doesn’t remember our sins anymore – that is eternal love and we are to show that same love that He shows us to others. Yes, there are bad people in this world, and yes they will meet justice, but what they need is Jesus. The following is the quote that Pastor Dave read in church: “…the term sonship summaries our salvation. In sonship…the sinner stands before God as a stranger and is made a son. Think of it. We stood before God as the accused and He declared us righteous. We stood before God as a slave and He granted us freedom. We stood before God as a debtor and He forgave our debt. We stood before God as an enemy and He made us a friend…that sums up salvation.”
