SERMON: February 5th, 2017 “And the Cycle Begins Again…”
Today Pastor Dave finished his sermon series on Gideon with Judges 8:22-35 and the understanding that after “Gideon made the gold into an ephod, which he placed in Ophrah, his town. All Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and his family” (Judges 8:27). The ephod was a “ya but” to Gideon and his family. Instead of giving God all the praise of what He had done, this ephod was a sign of what Gideon had done. When our spiritual eyes drift from the Lord, it is spiritually fatal. The enemy uses the same three temptations since the beginning of time, and the desire of the eyes (1 John 2:16) is the idea that it cannot hurt to look just once….and it cannot hurt to build an ephod. But building this ephod, leaving it in the hometown instead of moving it to Shiloh to the temple where Israel worships God, caused the Israelites eventually to go back to worshiping Baal. It is God who brings all our talents and gifts (1 Corinthians 15:10) and we are to give glory to God always!
