SERMON: November 20th, 2016 Guest Speaker Allan Peters Director of StreetLight
Today we were so blessed to have Allan Peters share with us. StreetLight functions as a Mobile Drop In and Resource Center for Youth at risk of or entrenched in homelessness. Their team comprises of staff and volunteers committed to working to helping youth discover their hope and potential. StreetLight is 1 of 4 Foundational Ministries of Youth For Christ/Youth Unlimited Calgary. We were able to learn about the impact social impact that StreetLight has in their ministry: 4,300 Meals Served, 3,500 lbs of Non Perishable food distributed, 330 Backpacks distributed through Operation Backpack in 2015, 4,140 Connections with Youth Aged 12-24, 185 Crisis Calls routed through the StreetLight Crisis Line, and we heard about the ministry’s spiritual impact: 6 Youth responded to the opportunity to follow Jesus, 15 Youth were involved in follow up/discipleship programs and 4,100+ seeds were sown. Allan also shared with us the impact that our church makes when we partner with them in filling the backpacks. The contents of the backpack bring things that are needed, but also encouragement and an understanding that someone cares, but the backpack themselves are a way that these youth can transport all their possessions and still be able to go to a job interview carrying a nice quality backpack. The following is a video regarding the ministry of the “Coldest Night of the Year”.
