SERMON: November 6th, 2016 “From Engage to Impact” the story of Gideon

Today Pastor Dave spoke from Gideon Chapters 6 and 7 about Gideon’s purpose of life as God’s Mighty Warrior.  The only way that he was able to be the warrior that God called him to be was to keep going back to God.  He consistently engaged with the Lord, either with the Angel of the Lord and taking down his father’s idols, but also praying to God and God understanding his need for encouragement.  Gideon’s purpose was never to stay that grain grinder in the winepress but to be who he was designed to be-a Mighty Warrior.  God is calling all of us to be who we are meant to be. Our purpose is in God and for God.

Quote that Pastor Dave spoke of that has been attributed to Nelson Mandela, but is from Marianne Williamson in her “A Return to Love:  Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles””:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.  We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?”  Actually, who are you not to be?  You are a child of God.  Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.  There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.  We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us…And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.  As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
