SERMON: October 27th, 2019 “Preparing Labourers to Send Into His Harvest” Jim Chapman
“God, Himself, chose John the Baptist to go out, as the forerunner of Christ, to preach the “Kingdom of God is at hand.” Then, Christ, Himself, chose the twelve to do likewise and to prepare them for ministry when He was gone. Then He chose seventy others to go ahead of Him in His own ministry, two by two, to do the same. At the time, He said, “The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth labourers into His harvest.” This is one of the only specific prayers Jesus ever asked His disciples to make. It was that important. He extended the them again when talking with His disciples when He met the woman of Samaria at the well. He said, “Say not ye, there are yet four months, then cometh the harvest. Behold, I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” Add to this the Apostle Paul’s comments to the Romans “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent?” There is still another question. Who is prepared to be sent? And yet another. Who prepares them?”
In this declining time of spiritual emphasis and values today, we are charged to prepare labourers for his kingdom – to raise up leaders for His glory – we will never know the ripple effect of those who impact others in their leadership and spread of the Gospel.
