SERMON: September 2nd, 2018 “Who Poked the Bear?!”
Who poked the bear? Jonathan (1 Samuel 13, 14) did by attacking the Philistines. He believed that all things are possible with God and he went without of sign from God. Jonathan stepped out in faith because he knew the Most High God. Too often we settle and not move forward and use “I will pray for that” as an excuse. Prayer is very essential to all of us, however it was never meant to be an excuse to bring us to a halt in doing what God wants us to do. He tells us what we are to do – and He never micro manages. Jonathan also went without a major army against the Philistines. It was just him and his armor-bearer. God will provide what we need when we step out in faith. Jonathan also went out against the Philistines with the promise of all that he had known about God. He had heard all the stories of the men that came before him who also had God on their sides. We have all the stories of all those who have come before us through His Word and also the witness of His people today. Our bear might not be the Philistines, but it is satan. He is an enemy and he needs to be rebuked! We can never take our focus cross! It is only then through Christ, that we can reach out into the community.
